Gas

He had forgotten to replace the filter assembly after he altered it during the last training exercise so he could smoke through his mask. Now he wouldn’t live long enough to regret his own stupidity.

The eyes were the first to go, oozing out of the sockets, a fraction of a second before his flesh melted. All his soft tissue liquefied as it came in contact with the purple gas. He opened his mouth to scream, but his lungs were no longer there.

Locked in that silent scream, he collapsed to the ground as the gas continued to dissolve his corpse.
